Have You Been Experiencing Shoulder Pain?

Did you know that shoulder pain is a very common complaint among adults and is most often associated with general wear and tear from daily activities? In fact, the most frequent causes of shoulder pain are related to ageing, injury or repeated stress on the shoulder.

Common problems for those suffering from shoulder pain includes:

Impingement

This is usually caused by a blow to the knee or a sudden twist of the knee. Symptoms often include pain, swelling and difficulty in walking

Torn Tendons

Tendon tears can occur with injuries or wear and tear. Treatment involved physiotherapy, steroid injections and if left until late, surgery.

Tendinitis

Inflammation of the tendons may be the result of overuse of a tendon during certain activities such as running or cycling

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis that affects the knee but it affects the shoulder too. The condition can result in stiffness and pain.

It is rare that we will recommend surgery, and often operations are only ever required when non-surgical treatment does not work. The Droitwich Knee and Shoulder Clinic has a history of operating on only about 20% of its patients.

We try all non-surgical options before we recommend surgery and all else has failed to reduce pain. Keyhole operation for impingement and tendon tears are some of the surgical treatment options available.

One thing that shoulder stiffness does is that it interrupts your activities of daily living and work making it very difficult to function. Left untreated it will affect the quality of life. So get your problems looked at now before it becomes a major problem, as the cost of getting this done now outweighs the cost of waiting for treatment after.
