Claustrophobia is no longer an issue!

We execute two types of MRI scans: open MRI and upright MRI. You don’t have to face claustrophobia or panic, instead you can get MRI scan in a relaxing way. You can even talk to the medical staff while being scanned. With our open and upright scans, we can take images in detail covering even more of the joint surface of the patient. Now, you are able to receive complete imaging.

What is an MRI scan?

An MRI Scan is a simple, non-invasive and pain-free test which does not involve any harmful radiation. Results are available within 24-72 hours when the scans are reported by a radiologist and have a high accuracy rate in diagnosing and detecting any abnormalities as well as the ability to detect minor or micro features.

Is an MRI Scan right for me?

There are several reasons why you or your medical provider may recommend arranging a scan.

Common reasons for booking an MRI scan can include:

Knee Pain

Swelling

Joint locking

Night pain

Mild or moderate arthritis

After meniscal repair to assess your state of healing

After surgery, if pain and instability is ongoing

Sports injury

Infection

Tumours

Patient Experience

Having an MRI scan is not a painful or uncomfortable experience, particularly in the MRI scanner at the Bromsgrove Private Clinic

The environment in the MRI scanning room is cool and comfortable and you will not require any injections or medications prior to your scan being done. The scan will take anything between 30 to 60 minutes

If you are having a scan immediately after an injury it may be difficult for you to lie back why you are having a scan. Our scanner at the Bromsgrove Private Clinic has capabilities of completing the scan in approximately 30 minutes if this is required. Please let the radiographer know if this is an issue and this can be discussed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an MRI be arranged without a referral?

We welcome patients who wish to refer themselves for MRI. A scan can be arranged at the Bromsgrove Private Clinic without a formal referral (though if one was available it would be very helpful) particularly if you are paying for your scan yourself. If you are insured, you will need a referral without which your insurance company will not fund the scan.

A simple self-referral questionnaire is a must and should be completed prior to the scan. Directions on how to do this will given to you once you have booked.

What if I do not have insurance?

The Bromsgrove Private Clinic is recognised by all major insurance companies and you can look for our provider codes if you are speaking to the insurance companies as they will appreciate this code if you had it handy to get an authorisation code. Don't worry if you are not insured. If you wish to pay for your treatment, we are happy to help.

How do I get an appointment?

Open MRI Specialist Scan and Report: The scanner in the Droitwich Knee and Shoulder Clinic is an open 0.25 Tesla Magnet.  The technology of this open scanner is different as compared to a 1.5 Tesla scanner which usually requires patients to lie in the tunnel.  This also means that the images produced by the open scanner are slightly different as compared to 1.5. The clinic scan images are reported by a trained and qualified radiologist who also works on the NHS on a regular basis and interprets our scans as well as scans done on a 1.5.  This comprehensive report is then sent to both the patient and your medical practitioner to go along with the actual images. Please note that if your specialist is not trained to read open MRI scan images, he/she may find that the images are different to those from a 1.5 scanner. If these images were taken to an external radiologist or specialist (who are not trained to read the scans from open scanners) and if they were not able to read the scans, we cannot be held responsible and no refunds would be made. If there are questions regarding the scans the clinic radiologist will be able to answer them but no refunds will be processed. Please refer to the referring specialist if required before booking your scan.
